Hey Chris,
I first watched “Possession” last year and wrote this on Facebook.
August 29, 2012
Special effects artist Carlo Rambaldi died this month. Best known for creating E.T. . In his obit, the 1981 movie “Possession” came up. I knew that was in my “to watch” stack,so I bumped it up. Yipes! Director Andrzej Zulawski had just gone through a divorce. I’m guessing the experience was not good. It’s very difficult to get into the plot and have it make sense. The movie isn’t in the literal world. It’s a bit like a Lynch film, think “Eraserhead” or “Lost Highway”. With the serious amount of yelling and screaming the 2 hours feel like 5. I was drained. The lead actress tried to commit suicide after watching the movie at a screening. I don’t see myself watching this again. It’s not bad, it’s just not fun at all. Good luck.
Since then I’ve seen the picture again (maybe January). Kind of odd to watch something I found so draining. It’s because “Possession” has seeped into my thoughts. At work,if my mind had a few minutes of down time I would think of the scene of Anna’s fit in the underground. So powerful the scene it’s burned a small hole in my psyche. I stand by it being a rough watch. I believe it’s worth it. I wish I’d sat on this movie a while before I wrote about it but it does give my first impressions quite honest. “Impression” could be another name for this film. One definition is an often indistinct or imprecise notion or remembrance. No,”Possession” is better. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

Just listened. Great episode. Hearing my name as I’m doing mundane tasks around the house puts a spring in my step. Thanks Chris.
